Q&A – Vol. 8:
Modern Warfare Gaming

by Starsky

When did you first get into Call of Duty?
First off, I am 25 years old and I first got into Call of Duty back in the spring of 2008 when I had my first experience playing the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. I played it on a friends Xbox 360 over spring break and a week later I had my own 360 solely so I could play COD4 with my friends. It was the best. Been a fan of Call of Duty ever since.

When did you establish your page?
My first post on the page was September 3rd, 2016. Was active on the page for around 3-4 months and gained around 8K followers. I then shut the page down because I got too busy with schoolwork and life in general. With my life back in order, in May this year, I started back up again and have gained about 10K followers since then.

What inspired you to create it?
I have always been the biggest fan of the Modern Warfare series. When Modern Warfare Remastered was announced, I was beyond excited and wanted to do something to engage that excitement and also have a fun hobby while at college.

Describe what your page provides for your audience
I would say the page provides a variety of content for my audience, mainly to do with two topics. The first being Modern Warfare News (annoucements, trailers) and the second being impressive clips/content from players around the world.. This can vary from funny clips, montages, WTF moments, and more. I am always looking for content that I believe my audience would enjoy. I really do take pride in what I post and am very selective in that process.

Will you always showcase content from older COD titles?
The page started only being focused around Modern Warfare Remastered, but transitioned into Modern Warfare as a whole. Obviously, with the current Modern Warfare being released very soon, the content will revolve around that game with some throwback posts every once in a while. As a Call of Duty fan that fell in love with COD4 over 10 years ago, I always will have a soft spot for the original Modern Warfare games.

Where do you source your information?
This is a secret! But actually from a wide variety of places… A lot of Call of Duty news I find comes from Twitter. Whether it is from the numerous developers I follow or other news sources such as Charlie Intel, there are a lot of great people that provide insightful information about Call of Duty. I am also very active on the Modern Warfare Reddit page, which is a great place for community-driven content. Lastly, you can’t beat YouTube. There is SOOO much content out there. You can simply search for a topic and find some sort of related content for what you are looking for.

Which pages out there in the same field do you admire most?
@jespergran was one of the first gaming pages that I personally followed on Instagram and was what inspired me to start that page I am running today.

What do you think of Modern Warfare so far?
I am nervously excited. I am on Xbox so I have not had the pleasure to play the Alpha or the Beta at the time I am writing this. I LOVE everything that I have seen so far and hope that it lives up to my expectations. I am glad Infinity Ward brought us back to the roots of Call of Duty and the true war feeling that we have been missing over the past couple titles in the Call of Duty franchise.

Is there a Call of Duty game that you rank above all others?
Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2 were the most fun I have ever had playing a video game. Overall enjoyment wise, I would have to put those two games above them all. Hoping that this new Modern Warfare will beat that ranking.

How do you operate your page on a given day?
Over the past couple of months, I was posting on average around once day. As the content pool grows, now that we are closer to Modern Warfare release, I will transition to post at least twice a day. The night before I am always looking for content for the coming day, and also getting the posts ready. On the weekends I will also look for content to save and post for the coming week. Timing is critical on when you actually post, so making sure the posts are ready for the time needed is always very important. Depending on how busy I am that day, I always like to look through my DMs and comments and respond to what I can.

Do you have any sponsors/advertisers yet?
This part of the page is in its early stage as I work on this Q&A now. I have been in touch with a couple of sponsors/advertisers that have expressed interest in a partnership in the near future. More to come on that which I am VERY excited about.

Will you branch out to different platforms in the future?
This is something I am pondering now as well. I have thought about beginning a YouTube channel as well as Facebook, but have not committed to anything at this point. Building a website where I can write articles and post more information is something I would like to do at some point. There are a large number of opportunities out there to help grow my audience and am always looking for options.

What piece of advice would you give to smaller pages looking to grow?
Quality and ORIGINAL content. I really think that is the biggest thing. So many pages out there just copy another pages post and post it to their own. You need to be original and separate yourself from everyone else. That was my goal with this page and continues to be my goal now.

What is next for MW Gaming?
One hell of the next couple of weeks, that’s for sure. With the release of Modern Warfare this October, things will really kick into gear and with that, I expect to step up my game on the content I post and hope to grow the page along with that!
