Birds of Prey is like a mashup of Deadpool and Kill Bill, but not really in a good way. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fun and poppy in the right places. Narratively it jumps back and forward often, so the storyline is messy. Harley narrates for the full 1hr 49 which also gets a little tiresome.
There are some great moments and some kickass fight sequences. The third act, where the Birds of Prey finally get together is a highlight. Everyone holds their weight, Robbie is good, Mary Elizabeth Winstead is excellent and Ewan McGregor does a great job in the role of the villain. I really liked Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary. I haven’t seen her before and I thought she was excellent in this!
I can say Birds of Prey has peaked my interest to see what comes next in this planned trilogy, and I hope they concentrate more on the pack, rather than just Harley.
